Meadowrift Nursery About

About Meadowrift Nursery

A Reykjavik plant nursery focused on healthy perennials, clear advice, and city-scale gardening.

Meadowrift Nursery opened on Laugavegur to give Reykjavik gardeners a walk-in place for hardy stock — not a catalogue warehouse, but a glasshouse and yard where you can see leaf colour, root strength, and pot size before you commit.

We specialise in daylilies, hostas, and iris, and we keep a rotating supporting cast of evergreen shrubs, herbs, and seasonal bedding. Our customers include balcony growers in 101 Reykjavík, courtyard keepers in nearby streets, and anyone who wants plants that respect Iceland’s short summer without overselling hardiness.

How we work

Four habits guide daily decisions on the floor: careful selection, honest labels, reliable opening hours, and partnership with growers who document plant health. We prefer fewer cultivars done well over endless novelty lists that leave plants stressed on the shelf.

We share practical tips for wind, salt air near the harbour, and light levels in dense city blocks. If a plant is better as a summer container than a permanent outdoor feature, we say so. That honesty keeps gardens looking better — and customers coming back.

Local involvement

Meadowrift supports neighbourhood greening by advising small courtyard projects and offering plant lists suited to shared residential yards. We occasionally host informal Saturday morning talks during peak season — watch the news page for dates.

Responsible growing

We reduce packaging waste where we can, reuse clean trays, and choose peat-reduced composts when quality remains stable. Chemical use on our premises is limited to what is necessary for plant health under Icelandic rules. We do not claim certifications we do not hold; we simply farm and retail carefully.
